TIA 2014

Globalization is having a profound influence on the information and communications technology (ICT) industry: New markets are presenting vast opportunities, while new competitors are squeezing margins. Traditional service providers and corporate networks are facing disruption and new challenges. The industry is undergoing a profound shift in infrastructure design, digital service delivery, and new service installation.

The driving need for seamless and ubiquitous wireless service is increasingly addressed by low-power solutions that get the user closer to the base station and limit the number of users per cell. These distributed antenna systems (DAS) and small cells make up the landscape for the “heterogeneous network” or HetNet. The investments required for installation, equipment, configuration, power, and cabling are considerable. Arnold Kim, Director of Business Development, spoke on the DAS & Small Cell Roundtable covering a wide array of topics such as:

  1. What “strange bedfellows” are being forced by the dynamic developments in the marketplace?

  2. Who is paying for what?

  3. Who “owns” the subscriber?

  4. What are the different requirements of organizations?

  5. What is the social side of shifts in the architecture of network coverage?
