SEAT 2015

The Sports & Entertainment Alliance in Technology (SEAT) event is a unique and educational conference for sports and entertainment professionals including CIOs, CTOs, and marketing experts. ADRF was a proud sponsor of the event.

Public venues present unique challenges, particularly due to their size and wide variations in usage. One of these challenges is the need to divide a large area into coverage sectors to ensure proper utilization of the carrier networks. In many venues such as stadiums and convention centers, designing for peak loads is imperative.

ADRF’s Chief Operating Officer, Arnold Kim, Senior Director -Information Systems for the Kansas City Royals, Brian Himstedt, and Sprint’s Senior RF Engineer, Dave Brewer, collaborated on a case study for the CIO Venue Technology Track titled “Kauffman Stadium: Case Study on Sprint’s Massive Spectrum Utilization and Technological Leadership via BRS 2.5GHz.”

Kauffman Stadium is home to the 2014 American League Champion Kansas City Royals. To ensure a memorable fan experience during games for many years to come, Kauffman Stadium needed robust cellular voice and data coverage throughout the facility that enabled uninterrupted consumption of social media, streaming video, and undropped calls. This insatiable, perpetually growing demand for bandwidth meant Kauffman needed a Service Provider with a future-proof approach to heavy and constantly shifting traffic patterns. Sprint brought to bear their massive spectrum position in the 2.5GHz or BRS band (up to 194MHz) and deployed their valuable spectrum resources in an unprecedented manner. Moreover, Sprint is the first operator to launch TD-LTE technology in the U.S., reflecting their deep reservoir of technical expertise. Sprint tapped their long-time equipment partner ADRF to furnish their ADX active fiber DAS, the first DAS platform in the U.S. to support TD-LTE and the 2.5GHz BRS band for Sprint. Through methodical planning and continuous optimization, Sprint efficiently and expeditiously deployed ADRF’s ADX DAS at Kauffman Stadium before Opening Day 2015 in welcoming back Kansas City Royals fans to their beloved home.
